This week Microsoft decided to release a series of new media apps for the Xbox One that its users can take advantage of. The list of new media apps includes Vevo, Pandora, Bravo Now, Telemundo Now, and Popcorn Flix. The new media applications have been released just in time for the holidays so you can entertain your guests during get togethers. The applications will be available to everyone with an Xbox One, an internet connection, and a membership to each of the services and Xbox Live.

I think that it is pretty cool that Microsoft is releasing more media apps for the Xbox One. The Xbox One was a failure for Microsoft compared to its last console, the Xbox 360, which outsold Sony's competing console for that generation, the Playstation 3. There are many reasons for the poor launch and sales of the Xbox One such as poor marketing and a higher initial price tag than its competitor, the Playstation 4. The Xbox One also featured a less power central processing unit and a less powerful graphics processing unit. This means that the console is not able to push out the good "looks" in games that the Playstation 4 is able to push out. I think that the fact that Microsoft is releasing these apps shows that they are looking to try and outsell Sony in the console wars once again. They had already taken a move to increase sales by decreasing the price of the Xbox One to lower than the Playstation 4. The applications bring an edge to the Xbox One that they easily held during the days of the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360, the entertainment interface. During the last generation of consoles Microsoft had the better console for playing with friends and hosting parties while Sony had the better system for the serious gamer. However, with the newer generation of consoles Sony has came out on top by producing a console that appeals to hardcore gamers and the average person. Microsoft, however, didn't really change their style and only made slight changes to the operating system and feel of the Xbox 360. This let Sony leave Microsoft in the dust. I think that if Microsoft continues to make moves to make their console more appealing to the average person than the Playstation 4 they have a chance of heading back to the top of the console market. However, I think that Sony has a pretty good stake in this generation of consoles and could very easily keep on selling more units than Microsoft.
Overall I think that this was a pretty good move by Microsoft. Even though I am a PC gamer and I like Sony more, I think that in order for Microsoft to emerge as the leader in console sales once again they need show that the general entertainment aspect of their console is better. Personally, I hope that Sony continues to lead the sales in the console wars because they make better products that are more reliable and that are of more quality. They also have better customer services than Microsoft does.
